  • Five Olympiad Contests, each consisting of five questions, and limited to 30 minutes are held monthly from November through March. MOEMS® sets an approximately 4-week window in which each Olympiad may be administered.

Host Your Own Tournament

Tournaments are a one-day local or regional event for students in grades 4 – 6 and 6 – 8 which provide a face-to-face team competition for as many teams as your venue can accommodate.

FAQ Icon HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A TOURNAMENT?

Fill out the Tournament Agreement from moems.org and send it to our office for approval. Once approved, you will be asked to pay the fees in order to receive all materials.

FAQ Icon WHAT’S IN THE HANDBOOK?

The handbook includes detailed event instructions, timelines, seating plans, responsibilities, and sample forms for promotion and registration for a successful event.

FAQ Icon HOW IS THE TOURNAMENT DIFFERENT FROM THE MONTHLY CONTESTS?

The tournament features the same style of problems, but a different format featuring two parts: Individual Round and Team Round. In the event of a tie, tiebreaker questions are also provided.

FAQ Icon WHAT DOES “IT’S YOUR TOURNAMENT” MEAN?

The name you give your tournament will appear on the top of every page (template provided). Your tournament is a representation of your group. Tournaments can boost your group’s visibility, build community, and even raise funds.

FAQ Icon WHAT DOES THE SPONSOR NEED TO DO?

The sponsoring organization sets fees (if any), picks a site, invites schools, prints contests, and provides awards. The handbook guides the process.

FAQ Icon HOW ARE RESULTS SHARED?

Scores are entered by volunteers into a preset excel calculator spreadsheet during the event to determine rankings and allow for same-day awards.

FAQ Icon ARE SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS INCLUDED?

Yes, solutions are included in the suggested PowerPoint slides for easy explanation.

FAQ Icon DO STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE MONTHLY MATH OLYMPIAD CONTESTS?

No. Anyone can join, and it's a great intro to Math Olympiads! Tournaments may be administered April through December of the same school year.
